Inspirational Healthy New Year Resolution Ideas

These New Year's Resolutions for Health and Wellness are not only good for your health, but they can also benefit your finances, your confidence, and your child's lives. A resolution to improve your health can have a ripple effect on other areas of your daily life.

1. A gallon of water per day is recommended

Water is an essential part of your health. Water intake can reduce headaches, improve energy, help with constipation, and even aid in weight loss.

Experts recommend that you drink "between half an ounce to an ounce of water per pound you weight, every day." This is for adults over 150 pounds. That's a lot. One gallon of water equals 128 ounces. (If you have any medical conditions, consult your doctor!

You should make sure that your daily planner includes a water tracker. This one does.

2. Plan your meals for good health

Simply put, meal planning is the process of planning your weekly meals in advance. You can reduce your portion size, avoid eating out, and have more options for healthy snacks such as veggies and hummus.

Meal planning is not only good for your health but it can also save you money and prevent food waste.

Also, the act of sitting down to eat dinner can have a profound impact on your child's development and health.

3. Eat 1 or 2 vegetarian dinners per week

The healthy resolution for the New Year is to get well and help the planet.

Because of factors such as land and water use, animal methane and fossil fuel usage, beef (and poultry) farming can be extremely harmful to the environment. Beef farming is 10x more damaging than poultry farming so it's best to cut down on beef consumption.

Vegetarians are healthier than others. They have lower rates of hypertension and cancer. You're not helping your health if you eat veggie burgers and fries as your "vegetarian" meal. Make sure to read #5 and eat more vegetables for your health.

4. Every week, practice self-care

In today's hectic world, self-care is increasingly important.

5. Eat more plants

In a world full of "food-like-products", getting your daily recommended intake of veggies and fruits isn't easy. The US government recommends that everyone eats 1-3 cups of vegetables daily, but let's face it, if you want to be healthy, you should probably eat about half the vegetables.

Although it may seem a stretch, fruits and vegetables are among the most nutritious foods. This means that you get more nutrients per calorie.

You can eat more vegetables and reduce your calories.

6. Mindful eating is possible.

Begin by sitting down to eat. Eliminate everything around you. There is no need for a phone, computer or work.

You and your food are all that matters. Take more time to be present and mindful when you eat.

It is a healthy habit to sit down and eat your meals. This can help you become more mindful about eating.

7. Keep track of your steps

Walking is great for your health and an excellent addition to these healthy resolutions!

Mark Sisson, Mark's Daily Apple states: "Move at a slow pace.  Our ancestors were nomadic, and they walked everywhere. Now, we sit far too much. It is extremely harmful to our health to sit too long."

You can track your steps and adjust your daily activities by keeping track of them. For health and weight loss, it is recommended that you walk 10,000 steps per day. Get a Fitbit or another health tracker to begin tracking your steps in the new year!

8. Spend more time outdoors

Many studies have shown a correlation between nature and overall well-being. Exercise, creativity, and depression have all been shown to be helped by nature.

Yale School of the Environment published an article claiming that (Nature), can lower blood pressure, stress hormone levels, decrease nervous system arousal and immune system function, improve self-esteem, reduce anxiety and improve mood.

It sounds great from all angles. You will see the benefits of spending time in nature.

9. Eat your veggies for breakfast

Probiotics and prebiotics can have a significant impact on your gut health. Here are some of the health benefits I have found from my favorite probiotic.

Yes, even something as simple and easy as body positivity can be a great New Year's resolution. This movement is all about body positivity:

Changing the way society views the body
Promoting acceptance of all body types
Helping people accept their bodies and build confidence
Unrealistic body standards being addressed
(Very well mind)

Um... Yes to ALL of it!

It is my firm belief that love for our bodies and showing gratitude to them can help us respect and treat them well. A positive attitude towards your body can lead to a happier lifestyle and greater self-confidence.

13. Get together with a friend to exercise once per week

Adults should exercise. According to HHS.gov, an adult should exercise for at least 150 minutes (30 minutes each) or 300 minutes (5 hours) per week with moderate intensity.
